The Fair Trade Workshop aims to propose permanent debate spaces and to link Fair Trade actors and other movements of people’s economy. Considering the great level of participation of the Fair Trade networks and organisations at the next WSF, the Workshop decided to put forward the TRANSVERSALITY of Fair Trade with other issues and movements. We intend to link Fair Trade actors with other actors, focussing on common problems and strategies.
This document summerizes the four events the Fair trade Workshop proposed for the WSF 2004: Fair Trade and Food Sovereignty, Fair Trade and Local development, Adding Value to Fair Trade relationships, Campaigning for fair trade regulations at international and local levels.

India -WTO. The textile and clothing sector
Textile is a major sector for the Indian economy and for employment. However it meets numerous difficulties in reaching developed countries' markets. The article shows how developed countries have failed to meet commitments in WTO to liberalize sectors in which developed countries are interested in, like textiles and agriculture, using different types of measures and instruments, such as anti-dumping laws and rules of origin. The author encourages developing countries to find innovative solutions to reach an international market that is evolutive, based on Fair Trade.

Fair Trade Forum - Outline Document
By putting producers from the South and consumers from the North directly in contact with each other, and guaranteeing that distributors, will respect certain economic and social criteria, Fair Trade seeks to create a more equitable share of aggregate value between producer and importers and to assure a greater stability of prices and income for the producers, thus allowing them to obtain a better standard of living.
However, the development of Fair Trade raises certain questions
- How can we assess the impact of Fair Trade?
- What should our definition of Fair Trade be, in the light of the relationship between the methods of fair trade and other methods of solidarity?
- Does Fair Trade contribute to strengthen local solidarity?
- Will the movement for Fair Trade be able to defend and spread the right to information, for both the producer and the consumer?
- ¿What should the links be between this movement and the distribution network ?
- ¿Is it able to influence public politics?
